What is a prefabricated house? Information from A-Z about prefabricated houses

Prefabricated houses are being used quite commonly in foreign civil works. However, in Vietnam, this concept is still quite strange. So what is a prefab house? What information do you need to know about prefab houses? Let’s join Hoa Binh Construction to find the answer in the article below!

1. What is a prefabricated house?

Prefabricated houses are being used quite commonly in foreign civil works. However, in Vietnam, this concept is still quite strange. So what is a prefab house? What information do you need to know about prefab houses? Let’s join Hoa Binh Construction to find the answer in the article below!

2. Advantages of prefab house

Prefabricated houses are tending to be used more and more because of the following advantages:

  • High degree of industrialization
  • Has great bearing capacity, less deformation
  • Quick construction, the steel structures are pre-fabricated in the factory and then brought to the construction site for erection.
  • Sealed, waterproof
  • Saving construction labor.
  • Easy to scale
  • Make the most of the space for factories and warehouses.

Prefabricated houses have great practical applications, especially suitable for projects requiring high durability such as high-rise buildings, factories, hospitals, schools, airports, etc.

This is considered an extremely flexible house system during the construction process, meeting all functions for business projects. That is why today, prefabricated houses are chosen by many companies to make factories, hospitals, warehouses, etc.

3. Limitations of prefabricated houses

Besides the great advantages, prefab houses still have some limitations in the process of use.

Specifically, the first limitation must be mentioned that the fire resistance is quite low. Steel will turn into plastic when poured at a temperature of 500-600 degrees Celsius. Thereby, reducing the durability of the building, making the building prone to collapse. To overcome this situation, prefabricated buildings are now covered with effective fireproof materials.

Prefabricated buildings also face corrosion and rust of steel frames after a long time of use. In order to protect the building in the long term, the steel frames need to be prefabricated, usually painted on the outside surface, the purpose is to protect and beautify the building.

4. What types of prefab houses are there?

  • Currently, there are 4 popular types of prefabricated houses.
  • Civil prefabricated houses: the type of house used for housing, has a variety of designs with a relatively low cost. Besides, the construction process of this type of house is quite quick, saving time.
  • Industrial prefabricated houses: including warehouses, workshops, etc.
  • Commercial prefabricated houses: are grocery stores, convenience stores, or supermarkets, commercial centers, etc.
  • Military prefabricated houses: the purpose of this type of house is to serve the military as barracks.

5. Some specifications of prefabricated houses

  • Height: the height of the prefabricated house is calculated by the distance from the base of the house to the intersection between the corrugated iron roof and the wall.
  • Length: the length is calculated from the distance between two opposite wall edges.
  • Width: the width will be calculated by the length of one side wall edge to the other side wall length.
  • Slope of the roof: This is an extremely important element of the prefab house because the roof is the place that directly receives pressure from the rain. Therefore, the investor and the construction unit must choose a reasonable ratio to ensure that rainwater does not stay on the roof. Usually this number will be appropriately chosen as 15%.
